The patrol division of the Norwalk Police Department consists of about 20 full-time road officers and supervisors. The Police Department also hires part-time officers to assist with patrol duties and special details. The patrol division handles investigations, complaints, accidents, crime prevention and service calls such as vacation checks and escorts. In 2006, the department handled 3565 complaints, 14,814 service calls, 416 accidents and wrote 1,550 traffic citations. Each officer must attend yearly in-service training. We are currently converting our cruisers from the traditional tan and navy paint scheme to a new, and more visible white cruiser with navy lettering.
