  License or Certification Requirements
     
    Must be certified as a peace officer by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council and maintain necessary certification.
     
    Must possess a State of Ohio motor vehicle operator's license, plus must remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy and maintain firearms proficiency.


  Essential Functions of the Position
     
    Patrols assigned areas to serve citizens, prevent crimes; enforce laws and ordinances; responds to citizen complaints; interviews witnesses and suspects to crimes, accidents or disturbances; administers first aid; apprehends and/or arrests person in violation of the law and ordinances; transports suspects to police headquarters and prisoners to court.
     
    Conducts investigations of crimes, e.g., crime scene activities; interviews or interrogates witnesses, victims, suspects, etc.; takes statements; collects and analyzes information; secures evidence seized during investigation; plans continuing actions and activities.
     
    Directs and monitors traffic, enforces traffic laws, runs radar, administers test for blood alcohol content, issues citations; investigates traffic accidents; provides general assistance to motorists.
     
    Prepares and submits records, reports and other documentation, e.g., accidents, arrests, investigations, etc.
     
    Operates radio communications equipment to monitor, receive and transmit communications of safety personnel.
     
    Prepares for and testifies in courts of law.
     
    Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
     
    Maintains required license and certification.


  Other Duties and Responsibilities
     
    Attends training programs and reads professional publications in order to keep abreast of advancements in the field.
     
    Conducts training for other officers in areas of expertise.
     
    May be assigned to a subunit of the police department or assigned to a specialized duty.
     
    Performs other related duties.
